It’s written, what purchases after 2016-07-24 can be upgraded for free. However, we don’t see such option in Asset Store. We need to clarify, what is our option to upgrade: half-price or free upgrade.

If you try to purchase from the same account it should show the upgrade as costing $0. However I know the asset store is really bad at showing useful information for these kinds of upgrades.
In any case you can always download the latest version (even 4.x) here https://www.arongranberg.com/astar/download using your original asset store invoice number.
